About Us

Who is Chileab Construction? Chileab Construction is owned and operated by Willis Lasell. My family came to Durham in 1922 and settled on a small farm. Having grown up on a farm, I have been building and repairing buildings since I could lift a hammer. I have worked in the construction industry since the late seventies except for the years spent on achieving a bachelors degree at CSU Chico (major in Religious Studies, and double minors in Physics and Math). In 1989 I got my general contractors license and started Chileab Construction.

In the early eighties I went to work for a construction company in San Diego specializing in commercial construction. At Purser Construction out of San Diego I began as a carpenter and painter but soon moved up to manager for their small works division. I was responsible for acquiring, bidding, planning, supervising and quality control of commercial construction, usually, tenant improvements (TI). My last project with Purser Construction was managing their Monterrey Peninsula office.  There I worked directly with California State University Monterrey Bay. This two year project was centered around remodeling 16 housing units into custom single and multi-family homes for university housing.

With a strong desire to get my growing family back to country living, I moved back to the family farm in September of 2002. On that site we built a 2,000 s.f. shop. After the construction market crashed in 2008 I sold my shop to a relative and headed for the hills.

winter fun at home

It has been a life long dream to live among the evergreens. So. . .
I now reside amongst pine trees on the steps of the Sierras overlooking Paradise,
Chico and Durham with my wife and two sons,  one dog, one cat, and a bunny.
